Lower Zambezi National Park is nestled between an impressive mountain escarpment to the north and the mighty Zambezi River to the south. The escarpment acts as a natural barrier for the wildlife, keeping it on the plains and in the rich woodland on the bank of the river. The Lower Zambezi is a haven for wildlife and bird lovers with 60 mammal species and 378 bird species. Elephant, hippo and a diversity of plains game are abundant throughout the park. As the summer rains recede, April is the best time to see wild dogs and a high bird diversity.
May: Boat cruises are excellent all year on the Zambezi River - expect plenty of hippos, crocodiles, birds and elephants.
July to October: peak walking safari season. Lion and leopard sightings pick up as the bush dries out and the visibility improves.
Canoeing safaris are great all year. During the driest months of August to November, wildlife congregates along the river.
July to October is peak season for our Sleepout Under the Stars.
Fishing is good year round, but peaks in October and November during the breeding season.
Safari tents with en suite bathrooms, open air showers, outdoor seating area with river views, double or twin configuration, overhead fans, generator power with British three pin plugs in tents.
