The most famous and most attractive is the Church of St. George, 15 m high, carved into the rock in the shape of a Greek cross.

    There are 44 churches in Gondar, but the most famous of them is the Debre Berhan Selassie church, 18th century, with a ceiling painted with the faces of angels. Legend has it that when the Makhdists tried to burn down this church, a swarm of bees came to the rescue and drove away the invaders.
